What's in a name?

Names matter.  Thresholds are commonly understood as big moments in our lives where we change or shift.  And they are seen as the doorways or entrances to rooms or homes.  This community is about how we work to transform culture into something beautiful and abundant and authentic and become more alive in the process. Our name speaks to this process and its two aspects - "thresh" and "hold".  This comes from the seed saving and farming roots of many of our ancestors.  To "thresh" is to transform the dried stalks of grain or other crops by knocking them with flails or other tools. This brings in another common phrase - separating the wheat from the chaff.  The "hold" (noun) is the important space where this is done as the process needs to be protected so the seeds do not scatter and get lost.  It needs to be held.  Transformation needs to be held or it is lost.

The threshold signifies the intentional transition into a space that is safe for powerful transformation.  When we cross a threshold into a space or in our lives, there is a recognition that we are now being held in something distinct, different.  That there is a purpose to this space or this process or next step we are taking. It can be difficult or painful leaving something behind or trying something new, so the "hold" part is just as important as the "thresh" part. May our home and community hold us with abundance and pleasure as we explore our healing and liberation individually and collectively. Welcome to Threshold!
